In 2017 movie Eternal Wave. Actress Zhang Lan Xin AKA 张蓝心 plays as villainess Akiyama Masako.
Honestly years ago, I would never say that Chinese movies are the best, a friend of mine was a big fan of Chinese movies, who was also a superhero fan, other than Jackie Chan movies, I always preferred watching Hollywood movies, if not for anything, it's because I can easily understand English, the names of the characters are very familiar, it really helped me to achieve immersion while watching movies, now, I wish if I can learn Chinese, I don't even know what they speak and where to begin, and learning Chinese isn't as easy as learning Hebrew for an Arab, as Hebrew very similar to Arabic, or learning French for an English speaker as the two languages have a lot of things in common, it would probably take years, and I really hope if there's an easy way, in order to decouple completely from anything related to the western culture, and hopefully maybe when I grow old, I would be in a place where I never see any English letter for the rest of my life.
Anyway, let's start watching the movie, Ok, the movie started with a communist resistance group, that's probably when China was under the Japanese occupation..
And the resistance group was raided, Once I was talking to a Chinese friend and was telling me that this happened all the time, a lot of spies used to collaborate with the occupation against the resistance.
The fuck, this movie was made in 2017 and the action scene is so cool in comparison to anything made today..
We see our gorgeous villainess at the start of the movie, now I get why many Chinese were snitching on the resistance, who can resist this beauty, I would tell her everything, fuck, I would give her my phone password if she looked in my eyes.
I remember this, like, the heroes died one after one.
The underwater shot in 6:10 time mark, that's so cool, I love when Chinese movies always kept trying to create new things, one the coolest modern Chinese movies when it comes to visuals was Towards The River Glorious, the movie really looked amazing.
Have to say it, China is making the Japanese occupation look better than it actually was, I get why they are doing it, like, for not escalate tension between the two people, you still can see that they still humanize them, while at the same time acknowledge the fact that the occupation was an enemy of the Chinese people, on the other hand, you see Hollywood thought police, they are absolute fascist, they can't stand the idea of imperfection existing in a world, even if it's a world of fantasy.
So, our villainess chases and fight another hero who was disguised as a homeless man, fuck, I want to marry her.
Ok, the movie went into drama, but it's drama that it's entertaining, like how Liang kind of forced to work for the Japanese against his people, he would probably join the resistance, it's works in the movie, it's not like a waste of time and bloat like in modern Hollywood, it actually serve the story.
I had to watch modern Hollywood to appreciate how good Chinese movies are, but TBH, Liang is the first character I remember its name, the rest of characters come and go too fast that I find it's hard to focus.
The movie became heavy on drama, I wouldn't say it's showing the atrocities of the Japanese occupation, but trying to give you an idea, and let's be honest, if it did, this movie would be extremely dark and would be really hard to watch.
It's like I was watching a movie and the movie switched to something else, I was watching it as some fast action movie, like fight scenes, shooting, explosions and such, now it went towards the drama and tragedy area, it's still entertaining tho, as long as the movie keeps me watching, I'm cool, if it bore me, thanks, not gonna watch it.
The way I see this movie, Chinese kind of romanticizing The Japanese, they aren't like portray them as a good guys or anything, but portray them as way more tolerant than they actually were, which tell you how good the Chinese people are, plus, how much creative freedom artists have in China, I know some people will go like "But Hollywood have more creativ.." STFU, have you seen Hollywood movie or TV show in the last 3 years, or western entertainment as a whole, it's like they create art with gun pointing on their heads, to even compare it to Chinese movies only shows how brainwashed you are.
Our villainess just shot the poor girls mercilessly, I feel so guilty liking her, these poor girls..
Still, it's expected to have conflicted feelings about female villains, you shouldn't love them, you can't hate them, you want to save them, and at the same time you get they deserve to be punished, but in all cases you can't say you don't feel anything or feel apathetic towards them..
Damn, the bad guy cutting the flesh of the hero with a knife while torturing him, WTF, I think this even doesn't happen in Hollywood movies, but it's Hollywood, everything is censored, It looks extremely painful, not only that, he put salt on the wounds.. The nicely choreographed fight scene in this movie is probably to tune down how dark and heavy the movie is.
Chinese is similar to Arabs when it comes to movies, Arabs see the idea of a superhero is kind of dehumanizing, so basically, with a superhero keep defeating villains over and over again without being defeated even once, we over time feel apathy towards the heroes and kind of dehumanize them, that's why the number of heroes dying and losing the fight in this movie is way higher.
Damn, I miss this feeling, a villainess that you should never like her, she's heartless, cold, a horrible person, but you can't help yourself but to fall in love with her, her evil deeds aren't tuned down, she's absolutely evil, yet you can't resist her, you shouldn't be in love with her, yet you are, I shouldn't want to be near her, yet you want to be with her.
So towards the end our villainess went in her military car chasing the good guys, the way she kicked the soldier out of the car to chase the heroes was funny..
The movie is incredible, like how they have an aeroplane and the chase scene..
I get why the movie focus on the tragedies of China during such era, although it was still water-down, and thankfully the movie gave a space for entertainment too, so people who watch it for pure entertainment can enjoy it too, even if they aren't Chinese, even if they don't like China, they still can enjoy the movie.
